Mailbox FAQ

How do I rent a mailbox?

Stop by Offix Edge during business hours. The process takes about 15 minutes. There are 3 forms to prepare and sign. You will need to provide two (2) forms of identification (see below).

  • Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent, PS Form 1583: Each person who will be receiving mail or packages at this address will need to fill out PS Form 1583, which notifies the US Postal Service that you will be receiving mail at this location. 

  • Offix Edge Contract for Mailbox Service: outlines the expectations expected from both Offix Edge and the applicant

  • Acknowledgement for California Mailbox Customers: outlines state laws pertaining to renting a mailbox from a private commercial mail receiving agency (CMRA). 

You will receive a copy of each document you sign as part of the application process. Offix Edge will store your personal information securely. We will not knowingly disclose your information to third parties without your consent, except to facilitate the transaction, to act on your behalf or request, or as legally required by a valid court order.

What kind of identification do I need to bring with me?

You must provide two forms of ID, one must be a photo ID and one must have your current permanent address. These requirements are US-government requirements due to anti-terrorism, money-laundering, and fraud concerns.

Acceptable government-issued photo identification includes:

  • Valid U.S. state/territory/tribal driver’s or non-driver’s identification card,**

  • U.S. Access Card, U

  • Uniformed Service ID,

  • Passport,

  • Matricula Consular,

  • NEXUS card,

  • Certificate of naturalization, or

  • U.S. Permanent Resident Card.

Acceptable address verification includes:

  • Valid U.S. state/territory/tribal driver’s or non-driver’s identification card,**

  • Current lease

  • Mortgage, or Deed of Trust,

  • Voter registration card

  • Vehicle registration card

  • Home or vehicle insurance policy

** A driver’s license/ID card may only be used for one purpose – either photo identification or address verification, not both.

May I rent a mailbox even if I cannot come in person?

Yes. Email us at contact@offixedge.com. We will provide you with the three required forms. You will need to have PS Form 1583 notarized, witnessing your identifications, permanent address, and signature. Then return the forms plus copies of your IDs (which we are required to keep on file). Voila…you have a new mailbox rental. 

How many people/organizations/names may share a mailbox?

Up to three (3) names may share a mailbox. Each person must complete PS Form 1583 and provide 2 forms of identification. For any additional names/entities for which you would like to receive mail, you will be charged an additional $5/month service fee.

What will my new address be?

You must include your name and mailbox number in your address so that your mail and parcels are delivered correctly. Your new address will be:

May I submit a USPS Change of Address?

No. Because you are renting from a private CMRA, you will not be able to use the USPS Change of Address Form. (USPS will not accept your box number with this street address.) You will need to notify each sender that you have a new address. This also applies when you close your mailbox. 

May I use this mailbox to register my business?

Yes. Unlike PO Boxes renting a mailbox from a CMRA provides you with a street address, as required to register your business. Include the business name when applying for the mailbox, or update your contact information with Offix Edge as soon as you have chosen the business name. 

How will I know if I have mail or packages?

Offix Edge uses a notification program to scan your mailbox each day when you have mail. This means that if you receive an important looking piece of mail on Monday, you will receive a text or email everyday until you come to pick it up. The operating principle is that if you do NOT hear from us, then there is no mail in your box and you do not need to waste a trip here to check. You will receive a single, different email/text notifying you of delivered package, courier, or certified mail tracking numbers.

May I receive packages?

Yes. Offix Edge will receive a reasonable number of packages from all common carriers on your behalf. We will notify you via text or email when they are delivered. Packages for indoor mailbox holders are held behind the sales counter. Packages for outdoor mailbox holders are placed in a locker next to the mailboxes. We will hold smaller packages for about 10 days unless prior arrangements are made. Abandoned packages will be sent back, donated or thrown away. 

Please do not have freight or extra large/heavy items shipped here. We have limited storage capacity and will refuse shipments that are too large or potentially dangerous. If you must have such an item sent to this location, you must pick it up the same day it is delivered.

Can someone else pick up my mail?

Yes. Offix Edge assumes that possession of the correct key is evidence of authority to collect mail. If another person will be collecting packages for you, please notify us via email. They will need to provide your name and mailbox number. 

How often do I need to come to pick up my mail?

The service contract states that you will pick up mail once a week, unless prior arrangements are made. If you do not pick up mail at least once during your rental period, Offix Edge may not renew the mailbox. Please let us know when you leave town for an extended period of time. We will try not to scan your box and let you relax with fewer texts/emails. 

If your volume of mail becomes an ongoing problem because it will not fit in your mailbox, we will notify you twice via email/text. At that point we will 1) remove your mail from the secure mailbox, 2) start charging you a $5/week storage fee, and 3) ask you to get a larger box size. Not only will you need to pay more per month, but you will need to change your mailing address to the new box number and inform all your senders

Does Offix Edge scan my mail to let me know what it is?

No. Offix Edge does not provide virtual mail service at this time. You will need to pick everything up in person. 

Does Offix Edge forward mail?

Yes. You may set up mail forwarding with your mailbox rental. The standard fee is $5/shipment plus the cost of shipping and supplies. You may set it up by providing the forwarding address and putting your credit card information on file to be charged with each shipment.


What happens when my mailbox is closed?

When your mailbox is closed, we will hold all mail for 30 days. The service contract indicates that we do not forward this mail (unless specifically arranged ahead of time). You will need to pick it up. All packages will be refused and returned to the sender immediately (unless prior arrangements are made). 

After 30 days, first class mail and packages will be returned to the sender. Junk mail will be recycled. 

You are responsible for letting all senders know that this is no longer your address. 

How do I renew my mailbox?

The mailbox contract is to be paid for in its entirety at the beginning of each rental period. When the rental period expires, Offix Edge will email you up to three (3) times. The mailbox will be closed if you have not responded after the third email or 21 days, whichever is longer.
